Martin and Dick Olsen
Martin Olsen, Winery Owner and Manager
Growing up on the Olsen family farm, Martin Olsen began his on the job training by spending his summers in the vineyards and reaping hops out in the fields. After completing a marketing degree in from the University of Washington in 2000, he spent six years honing his management skills with the Hertz Corporation. In 2006 Martin rejoined the family business as winery manager to the newly established Olsen Estates Winery. As manager, he truly feels lucky to be a part of the Washington wine industry and notes that the growers and the wine makers have a strong family network that has welcomed Olsen Estates Winery into its community.
Dick Olsen, Olsen Brothers Farm Founder
Dick, with his brother Larry established Olsen Brothers Farm in 1972. The self-made farmers and businessmen started with apples and cherries but expanded into grape growing in 1980. In the late 1980’s, the Washington Wine Commission was formed and Dick was chosen to be a founding member and served as a commissioner for 12 years. Upon retiring from that position he was awarded “Wine Industry Person of the Year” honor.
Like the Olsen’s before them, both Dick and Larry’s guiding principles have been to produce premium quality fruit, treat all people with dignity and respect and to preserve and protect their natural resources.
