Ronald Irvine
Ronald Irvine owns Vashon Winery on Vashon Island where he is the winemaker, bookkeeper and janitor….and lots more!
Irvine’s history in wine goes back to founding Pike and Western Wine Shop in 1975 when there were about eight wineries combined in Washington and Oregon. In 1991 he sold his ownership and began working part-time at Vashon Winery while researching, co-writing, and publishing The Wine Project (Sketch Publications; 1997).
In 2001 Irvine purchased Vashon Winery. The winery is 23 years old and continues to produce mainly Bordeaux varieties of wines (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc in red (and blends of these), and Semillon in white)and also Pinot Noir and Chasselas Doré grown on Vashon Island. Vashon Winery also produces a limited amount of cider under the name, Irvine’s Vintage Cider, using mostly European cider apples.
Irvine is active in the Puget Sound Wine Growers Association as its Vice-President and remains active in the Northwest Cider Association.
